I LOVED having Helena as one of my Senior Spokesmodels this year. She is a seriously funny girl who is very well rounded. I admire her a lot and would be beyond thrilled if my girls turned out like her. CU Boulder is lucky to get this beautiful smarty pants.
Meet Chelsie (again)
Chelsie is absolutely darling. I have been taking pictures of her through her Varsity Cheer team for a few years now and it's been so fun. When she was a freshman she came to Addilyn's 5th birthday party with two other cheerleaders and taught the girls some cheers. I've loved getting to know her this year. She is so dang sweet... which she clearly gets from her mama. I'm so grateful I got to take her senior pictures AND that she was one of my Senior Spokesmodels this year.
Miss Peyton
Peyton. I adore her. I have been taking pictures of her with the cheer team for a few years but this year, being able to take her Senior pictures and have her be one of my Senior Spokesmodels allowed me to really get to know her and her sweet mama has been nothing short of wonderful! I honestly love those two girls and can't wait to see what Peyton will do with her life... because it will be show stopping for sure! (Bonus, she's heading to my home town for school!!)
Meet Senior Spokesmodel Haley
Haley is a riot. I have absolutely LOVED working with her this year and have been lucky enough to take her picture several times the last few years! I hope I get to work with her again sometime in the future. Have fun in Arizona, Haley!
Meet Kaylyn (again)
Senior Spokesmodels {Class of 2015}
Oh. My. Goodness. This shoot was UH-MAZING! I lost sleep for weeks with all the rain we were getting. I was so worried about getting my girls out there without them getting dumped on. Not gunna lie, it rained for the first 20 minutes. But then... then it STOPPED! YESSSSSSS! The weather was far from perfect but these girls had so much fun and made the best of it. Because of this shoot, I am going to start offering Best Friend Shoots. (Anyone have a catchier name for them?) Anyway, These girls are adorable. And beautiful. And sweet. And hilarious. Pretty much, I wish I was in high school again so I could hang out with all of them and steal their fab sense of style. Kaylyn, Peyton, Haley, Chelsie, and Helena were an absolute dream to work with... and I got to work with them all TWICE. Jack.pot.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Sabrina
Sabrina's shoot was a blast. We shot at a very random location that turned out just stunning! Then we headed to city streets to finish up with a more urban feel. She had super cute clothes, accessories, and made sure to have a variety. She even went bold with bright red lipstick with her last outfit. Thank you for being willing to do anything and everything on your shoot, Sabrina! And thank you for trusting Tara and me to choose an out of the box location!
Kaylyn
I knew from the moment I met Kaylyn that I was going to adore her. She brings out the "mommy" side of me with all her family has been through. It was really neat to hear her side of things as the sister of a brother who fought cancer. I have often wondered how my girls have dealt with things. They're a little too young and small to really express, of frankly, even fully know, how they felt being on that side of things. Kaylyn explained her side... She's a STRONG girl who is loved by many... including myself.
Delaney
Delaney is seriously one of THE sweetest girls I know. When I first met her she was reserved and a little quiet. As the shoot unfolded we DEFINITELY saw more of her personality come out. This is one of the main reasons I like meeting with my clients prior to the shoot. I don't want the shoot to be the first time I meet them. With each session I try my very hardest to capture true personalities... and I think I've gotten rather good at it. (Yep, tooting my own horn...) Delaney, thank you so much for allowing me to take your senior pictures. I'm a better person for knowing you! Hair: Sara Munson
Make Up: Sephora
Helena
Helena was absolutely so so so much fun to shoot! She is so much fun and, obviously, very beautiful. She is completely hilarious as well and had us in stitches the whole time. She's super ambitious, very involved in DECA, and I have no doubt the will go places and accomplishes a LOT in her life.
Merry Christmas!
Dancing Danielle
This beautiful brunette has such an amazing story. It's not mine to share but can I just say how impressed I am with her? She's truly a remarkable person. She is social, into the drama scene, a singer, and an avid Irish dancer. Without further adieu...
Miss Celine
I have known Celine for a while now and let me tell you, this girl is AWESOME! She is an amazing singer, an outstanding cheerleader, and can work the camera like nobody's bi'ness. I had a BLAST on her shoot and the light was almost as stunning as the subject! Hair by: Sara Munson
Make up: Sephora
Beautiful Alex
Sweet Alex. This girl... she comes from a very tight-knit family. She has just a hint of an accent. She is an amazing basketball player. She is one of the kindest people I know. And, I have NEVER had such an efficient client regarding changing their clothes. :) Honestly. It was awesome/amazing/astonishing. Love her!
Sweet Abby
You know when you meet someone and then you meet them again and when you meet them that second time you just know you’re going to love them? Well, Abby was for sure one of these girls. I was REALLY hoping she would choose me to photograph her senior portraits, especially when I was able to take her pictures at her Varsity Cheer Squad Shoot in June. Abby's session was a new location that looked just BEAUTIFUL from the street. It's gorgeous close up as well but we ended up naming it "The Ant Hill" because of all the ants! Never have I need ant hills this big!!
You can tell from the very first time you meet Abby that she’s one of the good ones. She has a heart of gold, this girl. Couldn’t love her more!! Thank you, Abby!! You’re a doll!
Peyton
When Peyton and I met for our in person consultation she wanted something different. She wanted a funky location that not all of her friends had. I delivered on that. This was a cool location that I got access to from another photographer. It was a location I was also dying to try so working with Peyton was a great fit! I have worked with her before a few times and was able to see her awesome personality show through. Thank you, Peyton, for giving me the opportunity to capture you!
Miss Haley
Hayley has got one of the best serious faces EVER! Seriously, this girl can work.it. For this reason, she was crazy fun to photograph. I met her when I did the varsity cheer shoot last year. When I saw her again this year, I couldn’t believe how much she had grown up and come into her own. What a beautiful person she is, both inside and out! Thank you so much, Haley, for letting me take pictures of you and capture that beautiful personality!
Complimentary Colors~ Guest Blogger Meredith Ryncarz
I am so excited to have the amazing Meredith, with Memories by Mere, guest blog for me. I always try to educate my clients on how to make sure they don't mush into be background... but now you get to hear it from someone else! (YAY!) ;) Without further adieu... Meredith:
I often have clients ask me what they should wear for their photography session. While the quickest and easiest answer is to send them a “what to wear guide”, you may still be shooting yourself in the foot. For example, if I was photographing a senior session in a meadow and really wanted her to stand out, a green dress or top would blend in while an outfit with a pop of red would make the image more visually interesting. This is due to something called complimentary colors and they can be found opposite each other on the color wheel. In the case of the photo below, the red vest and pirate headband add visual point of interest to an otherwise very green image.
The three major complimentary color groups are green and red, orange and blue, and purple and yellow. By using this knowledge you can bring visual interest to an otherwise blah picture location. Let’s face it, while you may not be able to always control what your clients wear, you can control where they stand.
In the case of this little boy, if I had placed him in front of a green meadow or the blue sky, he would still be cute. By paying attention to what he is wearing and his eye color, I can plan for a more visually stunning effect. I noticed an old orange brick wall where we were and had him stand in front of it. By scouting my location ahead of time, I can map out where and what I want to photograph.
Whether you photograph children, landscapes, or objects, knowing your complimentary colors can vastly improve the look of your image. The photograph of this historical home was done at night as I experimented with HDR for the first time. The yellow stucco of the walls played will with the purple blue of the sky and made the home stand out from its surrounding brown Texas landscape. For your next photo session why not try implementing this element of art. It is one widely used in painting, marketing, and other art forms.
Meredith Ryncarz holds a M.Ed. in Art and has taught at several universities. She currently is the owner and principal photographer at Memories by Mere Photography. When she isn’t busy snapping photos or mentoring, she can be found chasing after her two crazy kids and trying out new foods with her foodie husband.
Emily
I met Emily at my make up night a few months ago. I knew right when I met her that I liked her. She has such a kind heart. I was SUPER excited when she chose me to photograph her senior pictures. I also got to take pictures of her at the Patriotic cheer shoot I did for her Varsity Cheerleading Squad in June. Thank you, Emily! I had SOOO much fun!!!!
